A warm welcome to a Master Gardener’s garden

Welcome to the website for the Master Gardner Association of the Central Rappahannock Area (MGACRA)!  We are a volunteer group of Master Gardeners that support the Virginia Cooperative Extension in offering horticultural-related education and assistance to the people within the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford and the City of Fredericksburg.

Welcome Spring!

I certainly hope that it is the end of winter and that we all get a chance to enjoy the warmer weather.  If you are struggling to rescue your garden after this bone-chilling winter, this publication may help– Managing Winter Injury to Trees and Shrubs: http://pubs.ext.vt.edu/426/426-500/426-500_pdf.pdf

Hardiness Zone Map

The USDA has released a new hardiness zone map that more accurately reflects lowest temperatures.  The new map updates the 1990 version and is based on data across 30 years and considers changes in elevation, proximity to large bodies of water and extremes of terrain.  An interactive, online version of the new map can be found here: http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/
